St. Mary’s County Public Schools (Maryland) used an iBEAM construction camera during the 14-month construction of Evergreen Elementary School, the district’s first new school in over 30 years.
"We found the iBEAM camera to be an extremely useful tool,” says Bill Gross, the district’s project manager, who paired the camera with iBEAM’s cellular communication package and solar power kit. “It was very beneficial to have an operating camera long before public utilities arrived at the site.”
By linking the camera to the school district’s web site, the public was able to view the progress of construction online, eliminating non-construction personnel from attempting to enter the construction site -- reducing a large public safety concern.
The iBEAM OnSite live PTZ construction camera allowed Mr. Gross, the school system’s representative for oversight of the project, to observe the school’s progress any time he was near a computer, reducing his travel time and the need to be at the site. He reports that there were no incidents of theft and only one case of vandalism, facts that he directly attributes to the use of the iBEAM camera.
